Will Glass, created the “Drink Deck,” this past December. Drink Deck are playing cards with 52 different faces of Chicago Bars each participating bar, saving $10 with a check of $30 or more. Even if you don’t drink, the Drink Deck will still be beneficial.
There 52 different bar locations scattered about the city of Chicago that participate in the Drink Deck which means, “Your not just going to your neighborhood bar, [Drink Deck] allows you to explore the city.”
Unlike a coupon, bar’s featured in the Drink Deck never expire. The card becomes invalid once the perforated left hand corner of the card has been torn off, allowing the user to keep the card as a memorabilia. “The cards are more than just a piece of paper with a discount,” Glass said. “They are the memories of a night that may not want to be forgotten,” and become collectors items of places that have been visited.
The unique aspect about the cards are they are each placed under different genera depending upon ones taste. For example, one can choose to go to tiki bars, beer or wine bars, local neighborhood bars, sports taverns, dive bars, music bars, and much more.
Glass gained his inspiration from attending local bars around the many cities he has lived. Although Glass has resided in the several different cities around the United States – New York, Miami, and New Orleans – Glass noticed they all had one thing in common: People would always ask him what do to, and where to go.
“That’s where I got my inspiration,” Glass said. “In Chicago, people would always ask me what they could do around the city.” Glass took his love for local bars, and playing cards, and combined the two together to create the “Drink Deck.”
“I’ve always liked to go to the neighborhood bars, and getting to know the bartender.” Glass wanted to find a way where the bartender and the customer could get to know one another, and he feels the Drink Deck will bring a more relaxed atmosphere to bars.
The public launch for the Drink Deck will be September 8, 6-8pm at the Motel Bar (600 West Chicago Avenue).
