Fire & Ice: Two home season closers; vastly different results

Saturday, the UIC women’s basketball team and women’s gymnastics teams each finished out their home seasons. In gymnastics, the Lady Flames soared to new heights, scoring a season best 193.725, toppling the Northern Illinois University (NIU) Huskies in the process. In basketball, the Flames did not fare so well, giving up another early game eight point lead to close out their season with a loss (88-77) to the Valparaiso University Crusaders.

Women’s basketball finds another way to lose

In their second to last home game, the UIC Flames (12-16, 9-8 Horizon League) failed to capitalize on the league’s second ranked Butler Bulldogs’ (20-8, 13-4) off shooting night and sluggish play, losing 64-59, despite taking a commanding 8 point lead in the first 5 minutes of the game.

Detroit steals another one from the Flames

Flames capitalize on second-chances, return home with ‘W’

In the first half of Horizon League play the Flames beat Wright State 57-47 in a win that was sandwiched between three league losses. The game served as a conference confidence booster if anything, and Thursday night’s tussle at the Pavilion would be no different.
